Ethical Statement

My aim is to coach with honesty, integrity and a high level of professionalism at all times.

I will strive to align myself with the ICF Code of Ethics, the EMCC Code of Ethics and will become accredited with the EMCC.

During the process of introducing myself as a coach and contracting with a client, I will make my qualifications and accreditation known. I will discuss financial terms and conditions. I will be transparent about confidentiality, and offer the client any notes that I may take about them. My notes will also be stored and destroyed in line with appropriate Data Protection laws. I will be clear about what coaching is and isn’t, and that in some instances, the issues being discussed may need more that I can give a client. If and when situations arise where I feel I am not the most suitable method of support, I will communicate this, and help the client gather more appropriate support.

I am open to working with all individuals with which I have undertaken a chemistry session, but I am aware of possible preferences that I have and possible issues that might hinder my ability to coach effectively. I am aware that not all coaches and clients are a good ‘fit’, and I am happy to disclose and explore this.

I anticipate that the majority of my client base will not be attached to an organisation, and therefore do not anticipate significant conflicts of interest in that setting. However, I am likely to coach some clients who are affiliated with the medical organisation that I work for, and note that I need to be aware of when boundaries could be blurred, and that during the coaching session I am working for the client and not my current employer. If and when I feel boundaries blur and there is a conflict of interest, I will discuss and explore it with clients in order to maintain my professional integrity and the relationship, and withdraw the coaching relationship if a conflict arises that cannot be managed effectively.

I will be clear and honest with a client when I am feeling less than able to coach at my best, it is not in either parties’ interest to practice at a substandard level.

I will engage in supervision, further my reading and learning, and continue to reflect to ensure that my level of practice is maintained, and also improved. I am open to experimenting with further models and coaching styles to be of most use to clients.

I will make my ethical statement and the ICF and EMSS Codes of Ethics available to all clients prior to our first meeting.
